Academy of Medical Professions: Group and Personal Fitness (Online Anytime)

This 10 week Group Fitness and/or 10 week Personal Training Certification will provide you national certifications through AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America).  This program is designed to teach you the skills you need to successfully enter these professions on a full-time or part-time basis.  We will help you to change the lives of others while you make money doing what you love.


As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will be able to effectively lead any type of group exercise program.  This program, which also includes CPR and First Aid certifications, is the first level of certification you will need order to start your new career.  You can work in any type of fitness facility including:  Assisted living and colleges, even working with children or working with kids involved with sports.  Some types of group fitness include:  Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, boot camp, interval training, step aerobics, water aerobics, Spinning, and more.  As a Personal Trainer, you n choose to work independently with clients for yourself or choose to work at a fitness facility where they provide you the clientele.  If you are looking to change one life at a time and work closely with a client, this is a great career.   Most group exercise instructors are also personal trainers and do a little bit of both to supplement their income.


Some of the skills you will need include:  Excellent communication skills, creativity, knowledge of nutrition and fitness do’s and don’ts which are taught in programs like ours.  This is a career that is constantly changing, so continued education will be essential, which can be accomplished by attending conferences, online resources, health and nutrition materials such as magazines, reports, and books.  You will be required to keep up with credits towards your certifications every year.


This program will provide you all the skills necessary to start teaching and training, passing the certifications, preparing your resume, and finding work.   Choose to take Personal Training Certification or Group Fitness, or both.


If you complete the course with a satisfactory grade, you will receive a Certificate of Completion, a Letter of recommendation, a list of companies in the field with web site addresses and phone numbers, and we would be happy to provide personal references.  Our instructors are professionals in the industry and can offer you the benefit of their knowledge and experience.

Academy of Medical Professions: Pharmacy Technician (Online Anytime)

This 14-week program prepares you to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. You will also receive a Certificate of Completion through the Academy of Medical Professions.   This program is active for ONE YEAR from date the of the Student’s activation, this allows our Students the time to successfully complete the program and to review up until the day they sit for the National Certification Exam.


As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be helping the Licensed Pharmacist with all the necessary day-to-day services that the Pharmacy provides. Everything from preparing medications to answering phones, receiving and verifying prescriptions, counting tablets, taking requests for refilling of medications, and much more.  You are an assistant to the pharmacist.


Talk about job security!! This is a growing field with high demand and great salaries.  You can work for places such as:  Pharmacies at Hospitals, Independent Pharmacies, and retail chains like Rite Aid and Wal-Mart and Walgreens.  There are so many possibilities.


Excellent communication skills and customer service are essential in this field.  You must have the ability to learn and retain procedural processes and apply them quickly and accurately.  Most places do require flexibility of hours some might ask for:  nights, weekends, or holidays depending on where you work and for whom you work.


You will be working one-on-one with a Pharmacy Technician instructor as you go through your weekly assignments.  She is always available and is in constant contact with you as you progress through the program.

Adult Education Orientation Week Jan 2 & 3

Welcome new Adult Education Students to our 2019 SpringOrientation Week.

Students must attend two Orientation sessions between September 4th and September 6th prior to enrollment in our Adult Education programs.  These sessions cover career exploration, growth mindset, computer usage assessment, learning styles, and reading and math assessments that are required by federal and state governments.

Learn the ins and outs of this challenging career from someone who knows the career first hand! This course is 180 hours long with lecture, lab, and clinical experiences at two local nursing homes and the hospital. There are prerequisite reading and math assessments that need to be completed prior to enrolling which can be taken Monday-Wednesday from 9am -noon or Tuesday-Wednesday from 5pm-8pm. 

There is MANDATORY orientatio for this class on Tuesday, January 15th at 2:30pm.

Mindful Meditation

The perfect gift for yourself after the craziness of the holidays and cold winter days. Discover meditation, what it does for you, and the different types of meditation. Included in the class will be an introduction to mindfulness and how it incorporates a heightened awareness of the world. Both practices are shown to relieve stress and anxiety. There will be opportunities to try these practices or you can just listen in this no judgement class.

Vocational Rehabilitation Dec 18

This two hour workshop provides an opportunity to learn more about the vocational rehabilitation services available in the state of Maine. If you have any disability or think you might have one and want to work, but can’t because of the disability, please attend this workshop to learn more about what might be available to help you get to work.
