Bread Making: Sourdough

In this class you will learn how to make and maintain a sourdough starter. You will also see examples and taste the different types of products you can make using your starter. In class 2 you will use your own starter from class 1 to make bread dough and learn different mixing/folding and shaping techniques. In the final class you will learn to score and bake your bread in a Dutch oven.
For this class you will need to bring:
- A pint sized mason jar with lid for the first class
- Bread flour (King Arthur is a good choice) and a quart sized glass or plastic bowl for the second class.
Good news! We are offering two of these classes this semester!
Class 1:
Dates: Weds 3/12, Tues 3/18, Weds 3/19

Empowerment in Action: 6-Week Adult Self-Defense Class: Age 18+

How Do I Get Enrolled in Adult Education?
The first step in enrolling in Adult Education is Orientation!
What happens during an Orienation?
We are so glad you asked! We want you to be prepared and informed about what to expect during your Orientation session.
During your Orientation Session you will:
- Meet with our student advisor
- Discuss what you would like to accomplish through Adult Education
- Fill out enrollment paperwork
- Sit for academic placement testing
What you should know before you arrive:
- We are located at 377 River Road, Mexico, ME 04257
- The Adult Education is the one that is facing the road
- You should ring the bell and wait for us to buzz you in. Once we do that, you can come right upstairs
- The Orientation process can take a few hours, so please plan accordingly
What you MUST bring to your Orientation Session:
- A current, valid Maine Photo ID (Maine drivers license, Maine State ID card, Passport, Military ID, etc. Please present this at the time of your appointment for identification verification.
(If you do not have any of those form of Photo ID, please reach out and let us know before scheduling an Orientation so we can assist you in the necessary next steps.)

Organic Gardening: Intensive and Companion Planting

Learn how to combine two of the oldest and most adventurous gardening techniques, Intensive and Companion planting!
Intensive planting has its own list of benefits, including additional planting space and increased harvest.
It’s inspiring to add the additional benefits of companion planting.
Explore how the combination leads to a more beautiful garden, increased and more diverse harvest, improved habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and contributes to both water conservation and weed suppression.
We’ll also discuss how succession planting can fit nicely into the planting scheme, adding still more to your garden.
